{"id":3264,"date":"2013-02-11T21:55:05","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T21:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikewish.wordpress.com\/?p=3264"},"modified":"2013-02-11T21:55:05","modified_gmt":"2013-02-11T21:55:05","slug":"54-great-opening-lines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/?p=3264","title":{"rendered":"54 great opening lines:  1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.<br \/>\n<em>Jane Eyre<\/em>, Charlotte Bront\u00eb<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>From today I&#8217;m going to attempt a self-imposed challenge:\u00a0 post 54 great opening lines from books on my shelves.\u00a0 After reading a post by <a href=\"http:\/\/zany4days.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/01\/creativity-is-forever-and-everyone\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zany4Days<\/a> about challenging himself to paint a watercolour every day for 30 days, 100 days, the whole year, I&#8217;ve decided to study the first few words in good stories, an activity which might, which should, affect my own writing.\u00a0 The opening lines that I post will be in English, but not all of them will be from English-language stories.\u00a0 Some will be my translations of great French opening lines.\u00a0 After browsing my bookshelves, I initially chose a figure of 50, but I could possibly come up with four more and make it 54, my age from today&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll begin with the first line from a novel I read when I was 13 which gave me a plan for my life, a plan I haven&#8217;t always followed but, in hindsight, I see has often followed me.\u00a0 It begins with:<\/p>\n<p>There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.
