South North Island!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I posted photos from our time in <a href=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/?p=5210\">Auckland<\/a>, and on the <a href=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/?p=5245\">volcanic plateau<\/a>, and in <a href=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/?p=5288\">Hawke&#8217;s Bay<\/a> on the North Island of New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>GREEN, AGAIN<\/p>\n<p>Our last stop was at a small bay north of the capital, Wellington.\u00a0 To say it was windy would be an understatement.\u00a0 It blew cold constant gusts that drew my hair up and out and often over my face at the moment I wanted to click a photo.\u00a0 Many of my shots were taken blind, like a lucky dip photographer.\u00a0 Take a look at these trees on the beach;\u00a0 there&#8217;s no way they can grow vertically!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5344\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5344\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/soundslikewish.wordpress.com\/2013\/11\/18\/the-colours-of-new-zealand-south-north-island\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5344\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5344\" src=\"http:\/\/worth.id.au\/wish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay.jpg?w=750\" alt=\"Windblown tree, Titahi Bay, NZ\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay.jpg 5472w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/windblown-tree-titahi-bay-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5344\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Windblown trees, Titahi Bay, NZ<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But before we got to this little place, Titahi Bay, we drove through an interesting town established by Scandinavian immigrants in the 19th century: Norsewood.<\/p>\n<p>BURGUNDY<\/p>\n<p>In Norsewood, we went through this little museum which must have had the same architect as the <a href=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/?p=4602\">Literary Institute in Gundaroo<\/a>, NSW!\u00a0 The museum is painted a rich burgundy red, a contrast to the snow-white houses we saw everywhere in New Zealand.\u00a0 By the verandah grows a great bunch of deep pink Watsonias, another flower that appeared in all sorts of gardens in NZ, even neglected ones.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5347\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5347\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/soundslikewish.wordpress.com\/2013\/11\/18\/the-colours-of-new-zealand-south-north-island\/norsewood-museum-nz\/#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5347\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5347\" src=\"http:\/\/worth.id.au\/wish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz.jpg?w=750\" alt=\"Museum, Norsewood, NZ\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz.jpg 5472w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/soundslikewish.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/norsewood-museum-nz-1200x800.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5347\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Museum, Norsewood, NZ<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>IRIDESCENT BLUE-GREEN<\/p>\n<p>While the iconic blue-green-purple P<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">\u0101<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\">ua<\/span> shells are found on most beaches and are available in all the souvenir shops, I found something else, less common but equally iridescent and resembling the P\u0101ua shells in their colours &#8211;
